Therapy for Autistic and Neurodivergent Adults

Therapy for Autistic and Neurodivergent Adults

You’ve spent a lot of time trying to fit into environments that don’t quite fit you.

Your brain works differently—and that’s not something that needs to be fixed.

In a world that often expects you to mask or adapt to neurotypical norms, it can be exhausting to constantly adjust yourself to just get through the day.

Therapy offers a space where you don’t have to do that.

Instead of trying to change who you are, therapy can support you in creating a life that works with your brain’s unique strengths and challenges.

A Neurodiversity-Affirming Approach

Therapy focuses on helping you better understand how your brain works, build self-acceptance, and create strategies that actually work for you—while also addressing challenges related to anxiety, trauma, or executive functioning.

I’m also mindful of how often autism is misunderstood or overlooked—especially in adults, high maskers, and those who don’t fit traditional stereotypes. I’ve reviewed many evaluations where autism was ruled out based on things like eye contact or social presentation, while the internal experience was overlooked.

In our work together, I take that internal experience seriously.

Alongside addressing challenges, we’ll also recognize and embrace your strengths—whether that’s your depth of thinking, creativity, empathy, or ability to see things from a different perspective.

What This Can Feel Like

You may find yourself:

  • Feeling overwhelmed or burned out from masking or keeping up with expectations

  • Struggling with anxiety, overthinking, or emotional intensity

  • Feeling misunderstood or disconnected in relationships

  • Navigating periods of shutdown, exhaustion, or low motivation

  • Struggling with organization, time management, or follow-through

  • Feeling impacted by sensory sensitivities in your environment

  • Questioning your identity or making sense of a late diagnosis

  • Feeling a strong resistance to demands or expectations (sometimes referred to as PDA), even when they come from yourself

How Therapy Can Support You

  • Better understand your needs without outside noise or expectations

  • Recover from burnout and shutdown, and create systems that help prevent it moving forward

  • Create more manageable routines to complete daily tasks

  • Develop strategies that work with your brain, not against it

  • Reduce symptoms related to anxiety, depression, or past experiences

  • Develop more supportive, reciprocal relationships

  • Build self-acceptance and confidence in your identity

  • Learn how to unmask when it feels safe, and recover when masking is necessary

Who I Work With

I work with:

  • Late-diagnosed adults

  • Self-identifying adults

  • Autistic women, AFAB individuals, and high maskers

  • Pregnant and Postpartum Autistic Women

  • Neurodivergent adults navigating burnout, anxiety, or life transitions

Self-identification is valid and respected in this space.

While I don’t provide formal evaluations, I can offer referrals to neurodiversity-affirming psychologists.

Support During Pregnancy and Postpartum

Pregnancy and early parenthood can bring additional layers of complexity for autistic women—especially around sensory experiences, routines, and changing expectations.

You may notice increased sensory sensitivity, difficulty with unpredictability, or added social demands during this time.

How Therapy Can Support You During This Transition to Parenthood

  • Adjust to major life changes in a way that feels more manageable

  • Navigate shifting expectations and roles

  • Manage anxiety or mood changes during pregnancy and postpartum

  • Communicate your needs with family and healthcare providers

  • Find neurodiversity-affirming professionals and resources

  • Develop strategies to support sensory needs

Therapy for Neurodivergent Adults

Neurodivergence includes a range of ways of thinking and experiencing the world, including autism, ADHD, and other differences in processing, attention, and regulation.

Living in environments that don’t always take your needs into account can lead to stress, burnout, or self-doubt over time.

Therapy can help you make sense of these patterns and begin to approach your life in a way that feels more supportive, intentional, and sustainable.
