Therapy for Autistic and Neurodivergent Adults

Therapy for Autistic Adults

Your strengths are your superpowers. In a world that often requires you to mask or adapt to fit neurotypical norms, it’s important to remember that there’s nothing wrong with you. Rather than conforming to societal expectations, consider shaping your life to align with your brain's unique strengths and challenges. Seek connections with people who understand and appreciate you for who you are, so that you can then embrace your own authenticity.

I don't aim to "treat" or "fix" Autism. My relational approach emphasizes fostering self-awareness, self-acceptance, and promoting emotional health. Together, we will navigate challenges stemming from issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, or low self-esteem. Additionally, I offer skill-building exercises to address any executive functioning issues that might be hindering your progress towards personal goals.

There are numerous misconceptions about Autism. I have read several neuropsychological reports that rule out Autism based on the individual’s ability to make eye contact or engage in perspective taking. The internalized aspect of Autism is frequently disregarded, but I integrate it into our therapy sessions. I love talking about the strengths of Autistic adults: independent thinkers, empathic, creative, etc. Combined with therapy and resources, I can help you understand and embrace Autism.

While I do not conduct neuropsychological evaluations, I can offer recommendations for neurodiversity-affirming psychologists. Self-identification is also accepted in this setting and within the Autism community.

Adults with neurodivergent brains may face challenges related to executive functioning, relationships, and mental health. The experience can trigger feelings of shame, guilt, or trauma.
